General Guidelines & Rights

The mission of GSM is to publish the work of aspiring and published writers and artists that embody the feminine spirit, and we encourage material that is of a literary format. Material does not have to written by a woman to meet this criteria!

Rights - we retain exclusive first printing rights with a signed contract. Upon publication, all rights revert back to the author. We do retain archives of previously published material.

Response times - we generally respond within 8 weeks, or less. If you have not heard from us after this time period has passed, please query. DO NOT RESUBMIT.

Simultaneous Submissions - are accepted, but please notify us immediately if your piece has been accepted elsewhere.

Reprints - are rarely accepted.

Pay - at this time, GSM is a fledgling market and does not have the means to offer payment for submissions at this time. We hope to provide our authors with a publishing credit to their name, and are pursuing means to offer monetary payment as well. For authors whose work is accepted into a printed publication, authors will receive two complimentary copies.

Cutoffs - at this time, GSM is a quarterly e-zine with new electronic issues beginning in March 2012 and continuing on a quarterly schedule of June, September, and December. All submissions must be received by the last day of the month preceding the month prior to release to be considered for that issue. Example, all submissions for March issues must be received by the last day of January. Submissions are read year round with brief, stated periods of non-reading periods during the holidays. All entries submitted after any given deadline will be held and considered for the next issue.

We also aim to publish one printed anthology per year, at the end of the year. All pieces published during the proceeding year will be considered, and calls for new submissions will be opened as needed.

What We Like

Poetry - we will consider any form of poetry, as long as it's well written and conforms to the general guidelines. We are looking for high-quality poems that lift off the page and into our spirits, whether that be about love, sadness, anger, nature, or any other subject.

Any sex or violence should artistically justified.

We prefer poems over three lines and under one hundred. Please query for longer pieces.

You may submit 3-5 poems at a time, per quarter. Each poem should be submitted individually, with your name and email at the top of each page.

Fiction - we're always looking for a good story. Fiction should be no less than 1,500 words and up to 4,000. Pieces over 4,000 should send a query before submitting. We will also consider flash fiction of 1,000 words or less. When submitting flash fiction, please notate it as such in the submission header.

Please submit your story in  double-spaced simple font, such as Times New Roman or Arial. Do not intent paragraphs. Use a hard break between sections.

Art - sometimes creativity is expressed best through art, whether that be a painting, photograph, or the like. Send us your art of at least 300 dpi. Wow us.

All submissions must be sent through our submishmash submission system. Any work emailed without  a query (if necessary) will be automatically rejected.
